G.I.s missed on American Idol

Watching American Idol this season it occurred to me that our boys and girls in uniform didn't seem to be making as much of an appearance as they had in previous years. And then it quietly dawned on me why that might be. They're on duty fighting for our protection. Whether you agree with the politicians about the war or not, raise a glass for the soldiers who have died, those who are hurt and those still risking their lives every day.

Samuel L. Jackson Promotes Movies

On my previous post, I forgot to mention that Samuel L. Jackson made a promotional stop on the same Daily Show to promote a couple movies he has coming out this year. There are an impressive FIVE movies starring Mr. Jackson, the most recent of which will be Coach Carter in theaters now. However, the highlight for me - as you may guess - was the minute or two of the six minute and eighteen second segment where the two discuss Star Wars Episode III

Comedy Central's Daily Show with Jon Stewart - Save this .ASX file to your computer and then open it in Windows Media Player or your media player of choice.

As is the norm for most talk show hosts, Jon Stewart had to poke a little fun at the best movie ever made, suggesting that there are probably 27 separate films and not just 5 or 6, one of which deals solely with Princess Leia's cinnamon-bun hairdo.

Whois for confirmationvixens.com (20-Jan-2005, 04:41 GMT)

Last night, there was an episode of the Jon Stewart show --which I just finished watching on my new DVR-- where one of the correspondents (Stephen Colbert) was making fun of the Condeleeza Rice confirmation hearing, comparing it to a titillating cat-fight. He told Jon that clips of the action were available at his new web site - www.ConfirmationVixen.com - ...

Well, most likely within seconds of this part of the show airing for the first time, some entrepreneurial guy with most likely no connection to the show whatsoever had quickly registered this domain name, and pointed it to a subfolder on his own personal web site! What is there right now is not that impressive, and I don't even know that it will/should improve, but the counter on the site suggested that 95,000+ browsers had already loaded the home page.

What a strange world we live in where some comedian on Comedy Central will make a joke with a domain name as the punch line and that domain name is live very soon afterwords, already with purchaseable goods on a link from the home page that are related to the original joke.

Beware of Darth Tater

Just in case you thought it possible that Star Wars marketing couldn't cross any more invisible lines in the sand,...
Beware of Darth Tater
Yessir, that's right, it's Darth Vader as a Mr. Potato head. Okay, as much as I am laughing at this,... I think that I've got to have one!

Martin Luther King Jr.

Moments before the day ends, I thought it might be good to mention that Reese was learning about Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday last week. Today is the day we, as a nation, celebrate him. Being only five years old, Reese's understanding was that MLK learned about what Jesus had taught all his life. So, MLK understood that he wanted to change the rules so that kids like Reese could be friends with whoever they wanted to be.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.

~ Martin Luther King Jr.

I Dream of Jar Jar

For all those Star Wars fans that loved Episode I, but wanted to grab a high-powered blaster and fire it into the face of Jar Jar Binks, I highly recommend Star Wars Battlefronttm. Besides being a great game, one of the very first missions within the Clone Wars era campaign is to control a lowly Federation droid during the battle for Naboo against Gungan forces. This means that it is basically open season on Jar Jar Binks. I mean, they even have authentic Gungan voice-overs, so you can snipe one of them in the head right after they say Well that smells stink-a-whif! Mui-Mui!
