This just goes to show that no matter how smart & geeky you think you are, there are always things that might surprise you. I've been using a new browser called Firefox for a number of months now, not only at work, but also at home. I've probably mentioned it before on this blog, but if you haven't already, you should really get firefox.
It is mostly a techie's secret up until more recently. And as a tech I have felt myself to be on the forefront of this minor browser revolution. My favorite feature is the ability to open new links in tabs, rather than separate browser windows.
I was just let in on a little secret today -thanks Brad!
- that you can open links up in a new tab in firefox by clicking the little roller ball on the mouse … pretty nifty. If you already knew this just tell me to shut my big pie-hole.

Just finished watching a show on cable about a private investigation of Area 51. Here is link to a Google map of the place I worked a bit to get. Area 51 They even managed to get a voice-modified, face-hidden interview with a supposed former employee of Area 51.
The big secret? Experimental aircraft testing. Oooh, ...wow!
I say, big deal. Who cares? I mean, so our government is working hard to protect us by beefing up the Air Force with anti-gravity, super speed science-fiction technology. Does this really affect MY life in any way? Sure, they may be hording this technology innapropriately and acting outside what should be the proper chain of command, but that is not really my business, is it? I couldn't really get excited, either by the possible fact that they may be wasting my taxpayer dollars, AS IF other areas of the military or the government at large are operating at peak financial efficiency. More importantly, if all of these experiments will lead to better military superiority for the United States of America, why isn't that a good thing?

You may not know it, but there is a better browser in town. Everyone who has ever used a computer is used to using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, but have you considered the fact that there are other options out there? You can use your current ISP and browse the web more intelligently. The one I use now on a daily basis is a Mozilla project called Firefox. Here is an updated counter of Firefox downloads:

Please check out Spread Firefox.com and download the Firefox browser and download Thunderbird for your email.

Oily websites, Batman! I have a google page rank! I opened my web site tonight to discover that the home page has a Google PageRank of 1/10! When I was hosted on earthlink, I never even got spidered. It always said "n/a" in the box. After I moved to this current server and started converting all the pages to .ASP, I noted eventually that I got a PR of 0/10. You can follow how many pages are listed for a site in Google by doing a search for site:arconati.us. At first, I had 15 or 16, and then 21, and then .... it dipped down to 4. This slowly grew from there as I worked on it... to 20, then 50... then 93, then a whopping 133! Whoa. As things progressed, this ballooned to 200 or more, though a lot of the pages had been moved and there was not really that many viewable pages. The number today stands at 160, which is probably more accurate. But most importantly, my Google Toolbar indicates that I have a PR 1/10 on my home page. Even more amazingly, I have a PR 2/10 on the home page of my blog. I've also made it to the top of the second page for the keyword of Arconati which places me 11th on a list of 40,700 results with the word 'Arconati' in the page or keywords.
If you're new to the whole Google PR thing, let me just tell you that even having one at all is pretty good. Some webmasters work for years just to get a 3 or 4 or 5 out of 10. Very few web sites have a 8, 9 or 10; Google themselves, Yahoo, Microsoft, Adobe; the list is short. Anyhow, though PR won't mean the solving of all of life's little problems. Still, it is a real GEEK merit badge achievement. Hey, Google? Thanks for visiting Arconati.us - Brought to you by ArcoJedi.
