Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Front CoverBrought to you by Amazon.com

I've previous mentioned Harry Potter. Lisa did finish the newest and final book over the last weekend. Truth be told, I've not read any of the books, but I'm starting now on the first. I know that it seems odd considering that I've seen the movie already, but it's important to me. Although I know some details of the two books not yet made into films, there are still some details and surprises left in store that I look forward to.

Thank you to anyone who respects this and is careful not to reveal the surprises right now.

Harry Potter

I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix over the weekend. I thought it was a wonderful movie, although I thought perhaps that the movie prior to this one, Goblet of Fire was a better story overall.

Now all Harry Potter fans (like my wife and I) can concentrate their efforts on the countdown to the new book coming out this weekend.

Cool Monthly Archive

Even though I've been kind of complaining about Blogger today, I do quite like the Monthly Archive feature where the menu breaks out in a great-looking list. I'm going to paste it here in duplicate but it most likely won't work exactly the same since I removed some of the id= attributes.

Monthly Archive

One thing that I noted about this in review was that 2005 was a much busier year than 2006. Mostly this is because of April and May, the months leading up to Star Wars Episode III. Also in 2005, I tended to simply use my blog as a quick way to bookmark or link to something I thought was interesting without really writing much about it. In 2006, I discovered del.icio.us, and this became the quickest and best way to do that.

[REVIEW] Batman: Under the Red Hood

Full Cast of Batman: Under The Red Hood Actors/Actresses

Tonight I'm going to try my hand at reviewing / watching Batman: Under the Red Hood. I've seen this one before, but haven't written about it. I'm a big fan of Batman's stories and this one fits well with the mythos. It caught my daughter Reese's and my attention because one of the voice actors is Jensen Ackles, whom we've watched for many years on Supernatural. I'd stopped watching that series past Season 5 or 6 as they'd admittedly jumped many sharks by then. But Reese has been watching it and catching up with old seasons on Netflix.

Also voice acting in Red Hood is Neil Patrick Harris (yay for Doogie Howser, M.D.) as Nightwing. As many of the Batman stories do, one of the subplots here is the dark knight's complicated relationship with Robin --or in certain derivations the many different characters who apprentice temporarily as Robin. Nightwing is a grown-up now, but he started out as the original Robin. When he moved on and became Nightwing, Batman groomed a new apprentice. And unfortunately, just as we are being introduced to that young man within the first few minutes of this movie, he ...

--Spoilers--

...He meets his tragic end. Fast forward several years and Batman is on his own working a new case in a Gotham that is relatively low on crime. There's a mob boss called the Black Mask that is amassing power and Batman is foiling him whenever possible. But now there enters a new player on the scene.

The Red Hood

Many different criminals have worn a red hood and gone by that moniker in the history of Gotham. Apparently, even the Joker once worked with that alias. But this new Red Hood is an unknown entity. He has an AK-47, a motorcycle, a matching black leather jacket. He talks threateningly, backs it up with surprising force and has some impressive gadgets. When he first goes toe-to-toe with Batman, it's clear immediately that he is also highly prepared and trained.

He escapes from our heroes and even temporarily disables Nightwing. Which is too bad because I would have enjoyed hearing more from NPH in this flick.

Through flashbacks and a good detective story, we start to learn there is much more going on with hoodie. He keeps dropping hints to bait the bat. And it's his developing arc and the reveal of his genesis that make this a deep story. There's action in abundance, good art and the voice work from all players is amazing. Besides Jensen, there's a high visibility list of other actors; Bruce Greenwood (Captain Pike from Star Trek), John DiMaggio (Bender from Futurama), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter) and huge list of others you might recognize. If you like Batman, if you like dark stories, if you like these actors, ... and even if you don't, check this one out.

Everything Gets Left at the Doorstep of the Blog

I've realized that for many months now, I've been posting interesting things and tags and tools to my various blogs about the different things I am interested in, but haven't really created any actual content in all this time. Pretty lazy on my part. As of today, I've not actually finished the entire story about our Meet & Greet with Rob Thomas. How upsetting. I'm disappointed in myself.

SO what to talk about? Well, my family and I just back recently from a 5-day stay at Disneyland! By my family I meant my wife, my two girls, my Dad, my stepmom Linda and myself. It was a beautiful time all around; rollercoasters (the first for both Reese and Linda), a multitude of Princesses, helpful park employees, Mice wearing pants (Mickey), Ducks without pants (Donald), a Dog that walks and talks (Goofy), a Dog that doesn't (Pluto), precision fireworks, walking on the beach at sunset and even "shampoo" the whale at Seaworld.

Back to work on Monday. Work is busy, lots of action, stress and changes, but I'm still amazingly happy at this company. We are doing great things for our clients and going to do even better things in the future. This ship is going very far.

My wife is going to take her sister to see the midnight showing of Harry Potter without me! But I think that is fitting, actually, as I went with Katie to see Serenity when it first came out.

So, a lot of my other subject oriented sites have been getting more attention than this one. I can't say for sure why. One minor mental debate that I think I settled with myself was how specific did I want to get with various sites. I mean, I have this as my main blog, the original and focus. But I have a blog for comedy and jokes I find online, a blog for links to Kid Friendly pages, a blog for outgoing links to my friends and coworkers, a page for home brew Dungeons & Dragons, my collection of interesting quotes and a website I'm working on for my brother and his appreciation of off-roading.

But I have many other interests. Do I start a separate blog for each one? One complaint that some folks have mentioned about the Blogger software is that it does not currently have the ability to set up different categories. But even if it did, how would I arrange my many interests into specific categories?

Something else I've really gotten into lately has been adding links to my del.icio.us account. I have the account set up properly so that when I add a link, it adds the links and descriptions to my home page. I've got over 800 links saved at this time. And I like the categories I've been creating as well. Some day, I envision a 'wiki-like' setup for pages on this site, where I have my content that I created with the 'related' links from my del.icio.us account automatically added in the right place on each page.

A really minor quandary in my head had nothing to do with the category issues, but more along the lines of the fact that I was running into too MUCH segmentation in different areas rather than a central area. Do I start a separate blog for the music that I listen to and think about and maybe even create? Do I start a separate blog for my political thoughts, as non-active and half-educated as they are?

Do I start a separate blog for my Christian experiences and thoughts? I'm going through an internal faith experience that I can't even describe yet, but I want to try. Do I keep these in a separate blog from the postings in my other blogs that perhaps aren't quite as 'Christian' because they mention or have mentioned cynical thoughts or rants or complaints about organized religion some of the time? Do I keep my studies about the life of Christ separate from this personal blog where I've mentioned sinful things I've done in my past?

The answer is no, finally. EVERYTHING goes here. Everything! This is by me and about me, all aspects ultimately of me and what I care about. I'm not perfect so if you thought I was go read someone else's blog. I'm trying to be better. Perhaps something I mention will be helpful to someone else or plant the proper seed in their life. Perhaps the reader will perceive me as a hypocrite. Perhaps the only folks reading this are my family and friends and couldn't possibly take a word I say seriously even with pressure. It really doesn't matter.

Everything goes here. But for now, I must sleep. Goodnight!
